Radiology Positions are on the Rise

Six years ago I wrote about how radiology positions were on the decline (ignore my blog lower in the cue.  We just updated our website weeks ago and all content was given a new create date).  The good news is that radiology opportunities are on the rise.  I have been radiology physician recruiting for over seventeen years now.  After the deficit reduction ACT in 2008 decimated the radiology recruitment market as hundreds of imaging outpatient centers closed the specialty went into a tail-spin in 2010-2012.  More and more radiologists were graduating from residency and fellowships with very few options if any to choose from for positions in the country.  That’s because hundreds of positions evaporated with the closer of hundreds of independent outpatient centers that used to employ one or multiple radiologists.

The radiology employment market is now rebounding.  We’ve been monitoring this trend the last few years and especially this year (2017) we (SMART Physician Recruiting) are seeing a spike in our past clients and new clients calling and connecting with us to help them recruit a full-time radiologist to their group or practice.  We also are seeing an increase in locum tenens radiology needs as well.

Why the change?  I’ll answer that in another blog shortly.
